Veterans WWI Exhibit
In Honor of Veterans Day 2024 – A World War One Display at the Fox Island Museum
Featured items are:
Full military Army uniform including jodhpur riding britches, spats, tin helmet, swagger stick, and gas mask.
A scrapbook with photographs of delousing machines used to combat lice in the trenches.
Throughout the years, veterans have been supported by many organizations, one of which is the “Cootiettes.” The focus of its members, all women, was to serve veterans in rehabilitation centers and hospitals. Cootiettes were active on Fox Island for many years with our veterans. The name Cootiettes comes from the word cootie, which is a reference to louse (plural, lice!).
You can view this WWI display until November 24, 2024. The Cootiette display, however, is permanent.
