On Tuesday, June 10th, 2025 the Fox Island Museum and the Chapel On Echo Bay awarded scholarships to Tyler Harrington & Ashley Purcell at our beautiful Fox Island Chapel. Tyler and Ashley read their winning essays and we had the pleasure of having Ashley perform for us. Both scholarship winners had their families in attendance. It was an honor to award these two fine Fox Island residents $2000 each for their ongoing educational needs.

Tyler will attend the University of Denver in the Fall and study Kinesiology and Sports Studies. After college, he would like to be a physical therapist who works with athletes. He loves running cross country, scuba diving in the Puget Sound, and pole vaulting. He currently attends SAMi (The Science and Math institute) in Tacoma, but participates in  sports for Gig Harbor High School.

Karen Kretschmer, Musuem Vice President awarded the George Weis Memorial Scholarship to Tyler.

Ashley Purcell, is graduating from Tacoma Community College’s Running Start Program with a high school diploma and associate’s degree. Next fall, she will attend the University of Puget Sound to study piano performance. Ashley gave her first public recital at the age of 5 and is currently studying piano under Dr. Tanya Stambuk. She loves music and hopes to continue her studies through graduate school and build a career as a performer and teacher. When not at the piano, Ashley enjoys spending time with her family and teaching horse-riding lessons at the Fox Island Equestrian Center.

Naomi Grant, Chapel President awarded the Chapel Scholarship to Ashley.
